Kinja'd!!!

I've been thinking a lot about my future lately, which has in turn prompted me to think about what I would like my automotive future to entail. So in order to keep track of it all, I wrote it down.

Some of these will probably be quite easy to cross off, others will be more difficult, but I believe that everything here is theoretically obtainable at some point in my future (as long as I have the time and money, of course). I may not be able to do all of these, but writing down goals is a great way of obtaining them, so here they are, sorted into different categories.

I Want to Own:

An NA Miata

A sports car that does zero to 60 in 6.5 seconds or less

A BMW M car

A project car

A beater 4x4

A well stocked garage and workshop

Driving Experiences:

Track Day, Bro

Participate in an Autocross Event

Compete in 24 Hours of LeMons

Attend a performance driving school

Attend a road racing school

Attend rally school

Rent a muscle car in DC, drive from Ocean City MD to Sacramento CA exclusively on Rt. 50, and then on to San Francisco.

Do some proper off-roading

Drive:

A Ferrari road car

A Viper

An Audi R8

A 911

An honest-to-God, full on race car – Something like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Learn:

Heel-toe braking

Handbrake turn

Scandinavian Flick

How to Drift well

How to Weld

Witness:

24 Hours of Le Mans

12 Hours of Sebring

An F1 Race

A WRC race

NAIAS

A Concours d'Elegance

A NASCAR race

Indy 500 (thanks RacecaR)

An NHRA Top Fuel Event (thanks Leadbull)

Accomplishments:

Instill a passion for cars in any future offspring I may be blessed with

Teach future offspring how to work on cars, like my dad has done with me.

To be able to provide for my family while indulging in my passion for cars

So that's my list. What's on yours?

A real quick list for me, because, you know, I have work to do and stuff...

Own (in no particular order)
1) An Aston Martin (not the city car)
2) An Evo (not a big lofty one I know, but I want one)
3) A GVR4
4) A Viper

I would like to attend the following (again, in no particular order):
1) 24 Hours of Le Mans
2) A sanctioned, competitive rally race of any kind
3) Indy 500
4) Visit the Nürburgring
5) A BTCC race
6) A live taping of Top Gear (UK)
7) Isle of Man race
8) Witness night races/drifting in Japan

Legit! I may add a NASCAR race and the Indy 500 as well...

Indy is only about 3 hours from me, so I am sure I will make it happen sooner or later. I went to the USGP there back in 2007, and it was awesome.

I also meant to add to make it down to COTA in Austin to watch a race. I can get a flight from my hometown to Dallas pretty cheap, then drive. So it would not be much trouble to get there.
And then there is also Mid-Ohio and VIR, Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, and Road America...so many places I forgot to add to my list!

I want to own a Saab 9000 Aero, a Corvette, a Viper, a TVR, a V8 Camaro or Trans Am, a supercharged Mustang Cobra, an E-type, a Montreal, a Pantera, and a few motorcycles.
I want to drive all '70s-'90s supercars in existence in my country, possibly some 4x4s, a rally car, a few bad cars, and ride a Ducati Desmosedici RR (I know there's one here. I've seen it with my bare eyes.).
I want to often participate in track days, visit the Geneva Motor Show regularly, and watch Le Mans directly at least once.

Great list and perfectly realistic. But add an NHRA Top Fuel event to that—I promise you won't be sorry.

Top Fuel is in the same category as NASCAR for me. Not a huge fan of watching it on TV, but I would totally go to a race given the opportunity.

I recommend the Woodward Dream Cruise, and going to the Lingenfelter Collection for an open house, over NAIAS. Jussayin ;)

McSchmalex Bucket List:

Drive the following:
1) Drive a lap of the Nürburgring
2) Drive fast on the AutoBahn
3) Drive up the Pacific Coast Highway in California
4) Drive through the Canadian Rockies in the summer time (I hear the drive north/northwest from Calgary is beautiful)

Own the following:

if you can't heal and toe you have no reason to be writing about cars.
